Spending a night in a former cell of a monk, in one of the monasteries or other singular accommodations in Majorca is without a doubt a unique experience, and especially for the more experiences travellers, perhaps the best way to really get to know the island, the local culture and way of life. But due to the high demand, it is highly recommendable to book well in advance!
They aren't located next to the beach, neither do they offer extensive entertainment programmes nor varied buffet service. But all of the monasteries occupy fantastic spots in the unspoiled countryside, the silence is absolute and the ambience most friendly and secure. And, of course, the former cells, though simple in decoration, are comparable to any hotel room.
The best part of the stay commences around 7pm - 8pm, which is when tourists and visitors start driving back to their hotels or homes. The more silent it gets, the more it feels like making a journey back in time. You even start thinking about living in the Middle Ages, feeling like you own a castle. Then a lively dinner with local specialities and a stroll around the property under the light of the moon and in all-surrounding silence, before the birds wake you up the next morning, and you enjoy the last minutes of silence before the first tourists, who want to visit the monastery or go on a hike, arrive.
A NIGHT IN A MONASTERY: There is just no better way to get away from it all, discover the simple joys of life, and forget about obligations and stress - that is, if you manage to leave your iPhone at home!!
