    • The hiking route of "Pedra en Sec" (GR-221) offers beautiful landscapes, nature and culture, and brings us closer to some of the most authentic and most charming places of the island. Along the approximately 283 km, eight stages and 10 variants, there is a large number of hostels available for interested tourists and visitors.

The main role of each of these hostels is to provide board and lodging in the heart of nature. Walkers and hikers who walk through the beautiful landscapes of the mountains of the Sierra de Tramuntana can find accommodation there. Many of the shelters are located in beautiful places amongst nature. All are associated with significant assets of Majorca, whether ethnological, natural, historical or cultural. The hostels are integrated in the landscape and have been used and refurbished with respect to the cultural heritage of the area.
The buildings of the hostel Tossals Verds are from the 19th century, one of the most emblematic houses of the Sierra de Tramuntana, and the former municipal slaughterhouse of Pollença has become a hostel (Pont Romà) or the former military radio station which now is a hostel called Muleta.

The stay in one of the hostels along the route is perfect to continue excursions. There are numerous marked trails, linked to the GR, allowing to discover the unique heritage and natural value of this area. In the words of the Councilor of the Environment of the "Consell de Mallorca", Catalina Julve: "From the Department of Environment, we want to promote walking and hiking as a recreational, healthy and pure natural experience while working in the recovery of assets. The route "Pedra en Sec" and everything that surrounds the Sierra de Tramuntana is a natural treasure that needs to be protected and that is our duty."

They are currently operating five hostels: Tossals Verds (located in the municipality of Escorca), Muleta (in the municipality of Sóller), Can Boi (belonging to the municipality of Deià), Son Amer (also in Escorca) and Pont Romà (belonging to the municipality of Pollensa, situated near the city center). Some of these shelters are owned by the Consell de Mallorca (Son Amer, Tossals Verds and Can Boi). The others are managed but not owned by the Council, thanks to agreements with different institutions or entities: the hostel Muleta is owned by the City Council of Sóller and the hostel Pont Romà owned by the City Council of Pollença.

Prior booking is recommended to use the services of hostels along the route. Their capacity is limited in order to protect natural resources, to provide quality service and to avoid overcrowding. Furthermore, the demand has increased during the last year, 38,000 people were accommodated in one of them: 4,192 in Son Amer, 2,813 in Tossals Verds, 2,464 in Muleta, 2,115 in Can Boi and 1,627 in Pont Romà and numbers increase significantly year after year.
Without the slightest shadow of a doubt we are faced with a different proposal for holidays in Majorca, an offer that supports deseasonalisation and respect for nature. Are you ready for it?
