Ibiza and Majorca have the oldest salt-works in the Mediterranean. A thousand year old treasure of special interest to tourists from northern countries, that nowadays isn't part of any tourstic route or guided excursion.
Our idea is to elaborate an absolutely new touristic "salt route" through the southeast of Mallorca, including a visit of the salt fields, access to the company that processes the raw salt, outlet shop with highly-recommendable, local gourmet salts and visit of one of the nearby museums featuring artefacts of the Middle Ages, when salt was not only a commodity but as well currency.
Although the best time for visits would be autumn, which is when the raw salt is being harvested and piled up to impressive mountains for further processing, the route could be offered from April - November.
What do you think of this idea? Would you sign-up for this excursion? Or do you have another, better idea for promoting mid and low season in Mallorca? If so, become member of the C2M Community and send us your comments. We're looking forward to hearing from you. The best ideas will later be published on our homepage and voted on.
