Yes, they still exist, the romantic villages where time seems to be standing still, local architecture and culture are preserved, people have time for a chat or coffee, and walking is the preferred method of transportation. The best way to go and visit the villages of the island is by car, we recommend to reserve in advance online, e.g. at Sixt: You'll find low-cost rental cars here.
The most charming villages are:
- Valldemossa: re-known village in the Tramuntana mountains thanks to Chopin
- Deià: village halfways between the mountains and the sea, known as the "village of artists"
- Fornalutx: award-winning village in the Tramuntana; perfect starting point for hikes
- Pollensa: bohemian village known for its wine, arts, culture and remains dating back to Roman times
- Orient: the tiniest village in Mallorca, located in one of the most remote valleys
- Portals Nous & Puerto Portals: look-out and access to the most exclusive yacht harbour islandwide
- Banyalbufar & Estellencs: a trip back in time to when Arabs built the spectacular terraced gardens
- Artá: avantgard village; special highlights are the monastery and Betlem church
