Especially in springtime, when the fruit trees are flowering, the route makes for an extraordinary day-trip through one of the most remote valleys in Mallorca: Sierra de Alfabia mountain range.
The first stretch, from Alaró to Orient, is very idyllic, passing by fields with sheep and old fincas, some of them converted into charming rural hotels. Orient, more than a town, it's a magnificent tiny village where time seems to stand still. Stop at the first opportunity and climb the narrow, steep streets to the old church to enjoy the precious view over the valley.
The street from Orient to Bunyola passes through an area with a rather dense forest. The last stretch is uphill and zig-zags in narrow curves. From a distance you can already see the village of Bunyola, with the Tramuntana mountains as backdrop. The way down to the main street takes you through the oldest and most picturesque part of Bunyola.
Depending on the time at hand, you can combine this trip with other activities in the area: a visit to the weekly market in Alaró (Saturday morning), hike to Alaró castle with a its stunning panoramic view or why not visit Alfabia Gardens in Bunyola.
